the second album that i’ve produced with midland band archana totally eclipses their first. the melodies are catchier, the concepts are bigger, and the prog freakouts are scarier. the album was released as a pair of eps, with the more straightforward rock songs on roundabout 1 and the experimental tunes on roundabout 2. both are available free of charge on their bandcamp page, so you have absolutely no excuse not to go download it right now.

the first solo release from silk filled stilts’ justin gambino, this album has been a labor of love over the last 5+ years. it started as a loose collection of individual tracks justin recorded while between bands, but has since grown into a full album (with quite a few b-sides kicking around as well). justin moved to santiago, chile shortly after completing this project…hopefully the folks south of the equator can appreciate his talent and charm.

silk filled stilts is a sort of ann arbor indie rock supergroup, with roots of its family trees in seahorsenapkinforce and subgenius. the songs are all over the map stylistically and picking a single track that was representative of the entire album is next to impossible, but their hit single “takin’ time out” (also available on vinyl!) is below. i also contributed a remix of my personal favorite, “record in digital” to the album, which i’ve included below to stroke my already bloated ego.

this is record number four with after we fall and the first half of what is planned to be a double ep. the duo is spread across the country now (half in detroit, half in washington, d.c.), but every now and then they make the trek back here to lansing and we lay down another masterpiece. the guys can barely walk down the street these days without being mobbed by legions of house of night fans, but they’re always welcome to seek shelter within my studio’s walls.

9 out of 10 msu sorority girls can’t be wrong: the spartan dischords really are better than nothing. it took us a couple of years to get it completely finished, but the end result is something i’m really proud of and undoubtedly the most polished a cappella record i’ve done so far. during the final push lance ‘pants’ kinstner was here so often that when the cd was finally sent out for duplication i didn’t know what to do with myself. i hope to one day recover from this slump, but i make no promises.

ron was introduced to me by soul / r&b singer lyric’lee (whose album will hopefully get finished up one of these days). hailing from chicago, ron’s delivery is unique in lansing’s music scene and his recordings reflect that. we ended up chopping the whole thing into one continuous mix and it’s easy to listen to the whole record from start to finish without realizing just how much heart goes into an hour of non-stop rapping.
